Police secure conviction in rape case | KNO

Ganderbal, Jun 17 (KNO): Police in Ganderbal on Tuesday said to have secured conviction from the Court of Principal District and Sessions Judge Ganderbal against a rape accused namely Ghulam Mohammad Lone son of Abdul Samad Lone resident of Pethpora Chattergul, in connection with a case under FIR number 27/2017 under section 376, 451 RPC of Police Station Kangan. The accused has been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,00,000 (One Lakh Rupees), a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). The case was initiated on the basis of a complaint received on 13/04/2017 from a woman resident of Pethpora Chattergul, who alleged that the accused had forcibly entered her house and raped her, which subsequently led to pregnancy, he said, adding that the Court, after thorough trial proceedings and examination of evidence, delivered the judgment, bringing justice to the survivor. “The prosecution was diligently conducted by Learned Public Prosecutor Shafat Ahmad (PP Sessions Court Ganderbal), who represented the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in the case,” police said. The conviction highlights the unwavering commitment of the judiciary and law enforcement agencies towards ensuring justice in cases of crimes against women, the statement added—(KNO)
